RocShare's MapJam 2015

  • The Little Flower Community

We are once again throwing our annual map jam!

We will be getting together to eat food, share knowledge, and map out the alternative economy in Rochester! Don't worry if you have never mapped anything before, it's easy and we'll show you how. Just come with:

Local knowledge: we will need people who know of resources the rest of us might not have heard of!

A laptop/tablet/smartphone: Anything that can edit a spreadsheet.

Food: This is a potluck, and food will power our brains!

A Google account: Helpful, but not required.

A friend: Friends are awesome.

Note: This will be taking the place of our monthly potluck, so if you were going to come to that, come to this instead!

As you know, we have our planing meetings every third Monday of the month, but this month we are doing something a little different! Instead of meeting to plan our annual map jam, we will be attending a planning meeting at the WJCNY for their mapping project, to see how we can work together! Hope to see you there!

Introduction to Cohousing: Flower City Cohousing Orientation

  • Asbury Dining & Caring Center

Learn about cohousing and Flower City Cohousing. As part of ShareFest week across Rochester, explore the sharing economy and intentional community!

Most of us live in default community. We choose where to live based upon neighborhoods; school districts; commutes; architectural style; rooms; landscaping; parking; laundry; taxes, rent, or mortgage… everything except for what truly matters, the people, our neighbors. Contrast intentional community. When we don't choose the people with and around whom we live, the world chooses for us.

Learn about the multigenerational, 20 unit, primarily owner-occupied urban community we've started planning; how to become involved; and the 110+ existing cohousing communities around the country.

Join us on the main level of the Asbury Dining Center (the red brick building adjacent to the church, not the basement dining hall) on the campus of the Asbury First United Methodist Church

FreeMarket 2015

  • New Hope Free Methodist Church

Part of ShareFest 2015!

In the spirit of a potluck or a "Really Really Free Market" and looking like a cross between a garage sale and a party, the FreeMarket is a place to give, get, teach, learn, and play. Anyone can bring used goods and have them sorted and given away, or can bring their knowledge and creativity to contribute!

We will be collecting things like books, household goods, and clothes at 62 N Union Monday-Friday July 13th-17th, and giving them away 9am-5pm at that location on Saturday the 18th!

DROP OFF HOURS:
M 7/13 AND T 7/14  1-4 PM
W 7/15, TH 7/16, AND F 7/17 1-6 PM

But you don’t just have to share stuff. You could play your guitar, teach people to knit, create a collaborative painting, or something else we haven't thought of! In the past we have had everything from free massages to a hug deli, so be creative with your sharing! If you have something you want to share, just let us know!

Shift Change Documentary Screening

  • Flying Squirrel Community Space

SHIFT CHANGE: PUTTING DEMOCRACY TO WORK tells the little known stories of employee-owned businesses that compete successfully in today's economy while providing secure, dignified jobs in democratic workplaces.

With the long decline in US manufacturing and today's economic crisis, millions have been thrown out of work, and many are losing their homes. The usual economic solutions are not working, so some citizens and public officials are ready to think outside of the box, to reinvent our failing economy in order to restore long term community stability and a more egalitarian way of life.

ShareFest 2015 Discussion

  • Dorris Carsoln Reading Garden, Central Library

ShareFest is an event that has taken place all over the world, where a city comes together and shares their goods, resources, knowledge and talents. Rochester’s ShareFest will be July 13 – 19 at locations throughout the city.

Andre will explain the origin and philosophy of ShareFest and invite people to host events in their own communities. Events could include: a repair café, gift circle, jam session, upcycling event, potluck or stranger dinner, and a seed swap.

A highlight of ShareFest is the FreeMarket, a cross between a free garage sale and a party. People can take their used goods to 62 N Union between Monday, July 13 and Friday, July 17 for the big giveaway at that location on Saturday, July 18, from 9am-5pm. The public is also welcome to share skills at the event, such as playing the guitar, knitting, and painting.
